BACB BOARD OF DIRECTORS: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is accepting nominations for an opening on its Board of Directors. The Board member will serve one 3-year term, with an option to be reappointed for a second 3-year term. Only nominations submitted by BCBA-D, BCBA, and BCaBA certificants will be considered. Self-nomination is permitted.

About the BACB Board of Directors. The BACB serves a limited, but important role in the applied behavior analysis profession—operating three widely recognized certification programs and establishing related standards for its practitioners—all through the lens of consumer protection. The BACB Board of Directors is the governing body of the BACB, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation. As such, directors are legally required to exercise various fiduciary duties in their oversight of the organization. Given the gravity of the Board’s responsibilities, it is no surprise that the current 11 directors have 142 collective years (avg. = 13) of experience within the profession and that two-thirds of them had prior experience serving on nonprofit boards of directors before joining the BACB’s Board.

Nomination Requirements. One position is currently open for nomination:

It is preferred that this seat be filled by an individual who has been certified as a BCBA or BCBA-D for at least 10 years and who has held leadership positions or engaged in public policy activity within the profession.

The BACB values diverse perspectives within the profession and on its Board of Directors; thus, we encourage nominations from members of underrepresented groups as well as nominations of individuals who have some or all of the following characteristics:

  • have strong applied backgrounds and familiarity with the current state of the ABA profession
  • are from geographic regions that are not currently represented on the Board of Directors
  • have experience in practice areas that are not currently represented on the Board of Directors
  • are familiar with the history of the BACB and its certification programs

Only one submission per nominee is required. Multiple nominations will not affect the likelihood that a candidate will be chosen to run for a seat. Submitting this nomination does not guarantee that your nominee will be selected to run on a particular slate.

Before nominating an individual, you must confirm that they are willing to:

  • serve the minimum 3-year term (August 2026 to August 2029),
  • attend the annual Board of Directors meeting in person (typically in early August), AND
  • attend additional Board of Directors meetings, held via videoconference, as needed throughout the year.

Directors are also expected and encouraged to participate in additional ways, such as chairing and serving on committees.
