To ensure RBTs and BCaBAs are supported in their roles, qualified BACB certificants are responsible for providing ongoing supervision, training, and assessments for individuals who provide behavior-analytic services. This page provides all necessary documents and resources to provide ongoing supervision for RBTs and BCaBAs, develop and deliver the RBT 40-hour training and 8-hour supervision training, and administer the RBT Initial Competency Assessment.
Explore the resources below for information and guidance on supervision responsibilities and requirements.

Supervision Support for RBTs

Requirements
The RBT Handbook section on Ongoing Supervision is the best place to start to understand RBT supervision requirements.

Getting Started
Supervisors who oversee the work of current RBT certificants must complete an 8-hour supervision training. This training is offered by ACE Providers and can be completed virtually or in person.
For an overview of the roles and responsibilities of behavior analysts overseeing ABA services delivered by RBTs and BCaBAs, please watch our Supervising Ongoing Services video.

Ethical Responsibilities
Check out the podcast The Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts: Responsibility to Supervisees and Trainees and the article “Taking Supervision Seriously” in the August 2020 BACB Newsletter to better understand the ethical obligations associated with providing supervision.

Documentation
Documentation is a critical piece of supervision. Review the Supervision Checklist for RBT Supervisors and RBT Requirements Coordinators for more information. The RBT Supervision Audit Process: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and Resources document will help you prepare for a supervision audit.
Training and Assessing RBTs

Training RBT Applicants
The RBT 2026 40-Hour Training Requirements and Curriculum Outline must be used to design all RBT 40-hour training programs.

Assessing RBTs
When assessing new RBTs, assessors will use the Initial Competency Assessment Packet. Through 2026, RBTs will also need to complete a Recertification Competency Assessment when recertifying.

Attestors
The RBT Certification Application Attestation form must be completed by an attestor for individuals applying for the RBT certification exam. This form confirms that the applicant meets the age, education, background check, and abuse registry check requirements.

RBT Professional Development
After recertifying in 2026, RBTs will be on a 2-year cycle. To recertify, they will need to earn 12 professional development units (PDUs) through in-service training, ACE PD events, or behavior-analytic coursework.
