We are pleased to announce that Dianna Varady (Little Rock, AR, USA) has been appointed to serve a three-year term as the Board’s new Consumer Representative. Dianna is the Director of the Arkansas Autism Resource and Outreach Center at the University of Arkansas. We look forward to her input and involvement in a variety of important BACB matters in the years to come. Welcome, Dianna!

We wish to sincerely thank our outgoing Consumer Representative, Barb Byers, for her three years of dedicated service to the Board of Directors. Barb brought an important consumer-level perspective to numerous BACB decisions and activities and her contributions will be missed. Thank you, Barb!

Board of Directors Elections

We are pleased to announce the results of our spring Board of Directors election. Dr. Eric Larsson was elected to serve a second three-year term and Dr. Javier Virués-Ortega and Mr. Mark Lister were each elected to serve three-year terms as new directors in August. We extend our congratulations to the newly elected directors and offer our thanks to all of the candidates for running. We also wish to thank all of the certificants who nominated candidates and the more than 2,500 who voted in this important election.

Reminder: Supervision and Experience Training Requirement

Supervisees may not start accumulating Supervised Independent Fieldwork, Practicum or Intensive Practicum hours until they have completed and passed the online training module over these standards. The module can be completed in under 90 minutes and is available free of charge via the Training tab in your BACB Gateway account.

Supervisors may not provide supervision until they have completed this module and the supervisory skills eight hour training from one of our approved continuing education providers.

Supervisors should be sure to remind their supervisees of this requirement.

New Ethics Code Introduced

The BACB will soon replace the Guidelines for Responsible Conduct for Behavior Analysts and Professional Disciplinary and Ethical Standards with a new, single code of ethics: the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts. Read the September 2014 issue of the BACB Newsletter for a description of the new code and revisions that will be made to the BACB’s disciplinary system. These changes will take effect on January 1, 2016.
